Who doesn’t enjoy reading a good book? Have you always wanted your own reading nook to escape to?
#1: Display: Here are some simple tips to enhance your home with library space. Space is very personal. Haven’t you ever said or thought to someone, ‘Get out of my space?’ Let’s start with setting aside an area in your home where you’d like to display your written treasures. You don’t have to have an actual room to do this. You can share ‘space’ with your home office, living room, loft or even carve out a niche from an unused storage closet. Maximize your shelving by building or installing a floor to ceiling unit.
#2: Seating: Now let’s talk comfort. No one ever said, ‘I’m going to relax while reading a book on this hard, stiff chair. It’s alright if your new library or reading nook can only accommodate one chair. Don’t sacrifice your comfort for trying to maximize space with smaller, more modern furniture. Go for the lounge chair or plush padded bench seat.
#3: Lighting: Mood lighting, that is. You obviously don’t want to strain your eyes, but you’ll want a softer ambient light for your library. A stationary reading lamp, hanging light or stand alone fixture make practical additions. Install recessed museum-grade lights to your bookshelf or mount soft-light sconces to your walls. If possible, take advantage of natural window lighting.
#4: Comfort: This is the best part! Create a place where you look forward to spending time in. Add personal touches of tranquility with throw pillows or floor pillows, a fluffy rug or cozy blankets. Find a piece of art that you enjoy looking at or adorn your space with sentimental accents. You can create a personal oasis with limited space and on a budget. Pick your spot, find a seat, set the mood and get started on creating your very own library!
